The victory over fascism cost Georgia dearly: hundreds of thousands of mothers wore mourning clothes and the population of many villages was reduced by almost half.

In 1942 Petty Officer Adamiya Noah Petrovich became the initiator of sniper movement, having trained eighty fighters and personally destroyed about two hundred Hitlerites.

On the 21st of June 1942 he was surrounded with 11 machine gunners. Under his command the group fought a fierce battle, destroying more than a hundred fascists, and managed to escape from the encirclement.

For his courage and heroism N.P. Adamia was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, which became a symbol of respect for his feat and sacrifices of the Georgian people in the fight against fascism.

A street in the capital of Abkhazia, Sukhumi, bears the name of the Hero. It is also carved on the plate of the memorial to the defenders of the heroic city of Sevastopol on Nakhimov Square.

Detailed information about the hero’s feat can be found on the website.
