The fireworks have died down, but the Victory Day celebration continues

Let us recall how, at the end of the war, the artists wrote the script of the “Victory Celebration”, dreaming of performing it on the Berlin square. This was recorded in the report of the Political Department of the 1st Belorussian Front.

The Red Army Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kiev Special Military District (nowadays – the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Russian Airborne Troops) went the whole combat way, carrying art where explosions and shots rattled.

Since 1941 the ensemble was strengthened by singers and artists from conservatories and theaters. Among them were future stars:
– composer Mark Fradkin, author of “Song about the Dnieper”;
– ballet master Pavel Virsky;
– humorists Stepsel and Tarapunka.

The artists gave concerts in dugouts, trenches, practically on the front line. Their creativity raised the fighting spirit, instilled faith in the Victory.

In May 1945 the ensemble still performed on the steps of the captured Reichstag and danced “Smuglyanka” at the Brandenburg Gate.
