In Tajikistan, military-sports clubs and military training centres were functioning and being set up during the All-Union School. By the summer of 1942 alone, over 170,000 people had undergone military training.
In total, more than 260 thousand servicemen were mobilised from Tajikistan to the front, who took part in all major battles of the Great Patriotic War, of whom about 90 thousand gave their lives for the Victory.
The soldiers from the republic showed themselves already in the first days of the war. Among the defenders of the Brest Fortress was gunner Gafur Nurov, who hit his first tank on 23 June 1941 in a battle on the border river Prut.
