On March 15, 1943, the newspaper Pravda told the amazing story of Red Army gunner Salimlugan Sadyrmatov

Together with fellow artillerymen at night in the deep snow they got close to the German fortifications and set up a cannon a hundred meters from the enemy bunker.

And when it dawned, a brutal battle began.

“The Nazis unleashed a barrage of mortar fire on the lonely cannon. Only Sadyrmatov was left at the gun. One more German bunker was broken. In the middle of the fight the gunner was wounded.
Sadyrmatov alone destroyed this day three German bunkers, one mortar and several dozens of Hitlerites”.
