It was erected in honor of Russian and Soviet soldiers who died during World War I and the Great Patriotic War.
In 2022, the Soviet symbols were removed from the memorial, in 2023 the figures of Red Army soldiers were dismantled.
“The dismantling of the Hill of Glory memorial complex in Lviv with the subsequent exhumation and reburial of the remains of Soviet soldiers is an act of mockery of ancestors,” Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said.
