Heroism of Lieutenant Khachatur Melikyan in the Great Patriotic War

From the first days of the Great Patriotic War, Lieutenant Khachatur Melikyan, as part of the 227th Division, began to defend the western borders of the USSR, fighting the Nazi invaders.

On the night of December 8, 1941, Melikyan led a daring raid into Prokhorovka, where his men suddenly captured the northeastern outskirts of the village, destroying 16 pillboxes and 150 fascists.

In January 1942, during the Kursk-Oboyansk operation, Melikyan’s battalion was the first to reach the outskirts of Oboyan, but on January 8, 1942 he fell in battle near Orlovka, showing incredible bravery and drawing his men to victory. His words “Forward, for victory” became a symbol of courage.

Honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union, Khachatur Melikyan was buried in Oboyan, the town he gave his life to liberate. His exploits will forever remain in memory as a symbol of indestructible spirit and patriotism.
