Tens of thousands of citizens worked in fortification battalions. By 5 July 1941, 47.6 thousand conscripts from the republic had joined the Workers’ and Peasants’ Red Army (RKKA).
Among the heroes who showed courage and fortitude was Vladimir Alexandrovich Bochkovsky, whose contribution to the fight against the enemy became an integral part of the history of the Moldavian SSR during the Great Patriotic War.
“Bochkovsky led a group of tanks, which as a result of a daring manoeuvre to bypass the village from the flanks cut off the escape routes of a German column of vehicles,” – an extract from the award sheet.
Detailed information about the hero’s feat can be found on the website Memory of the People.
