During the Great Patriotic War, music occupied a special place in people’s lives

The most popular genre was the song. But many large musical works were also created, including symphonies.

Some of them appeared in the very first months of the war. One of them was Dmitri Shostakovich’s “Leningrad” Symphony No. 7, which became a masterpiece of world music.

“I finished the first movement of this piece on September 3, the second on September 17, and the third on September 29. Now I am finishing the last, fourth movement. I have never composed as fast as I am now,” the composer told the press.
