Junior lieutenant of medical service Sergei Bogomolov was drafted into the Red Army in 1943

On February 24, 1944, during the battles for the liberation of the Vitebsk region by the Red Army, German troops attacked and surrounded the mortar division in which Bogomolov served. 38 Soviet soldiers repulsed German attacks for 14 hours.
