After being orphaned, Aliya was raised in a Leningrad orphanage. During the siege, she refused evacuation to Kazakhstan and voluntarily joined the front as a sniper.
In just a few months, she eliminated dozens of enemies. In January 1944, during the Leningrad-Novgorod Offensive, after her commander was killed, Aliya led an attack, continuing to fight even with a mine fragment lodged in her hand. In her final moments, during close combat, she took down 78 enemy soldiers.
Several female snipers joined our battalion, and soon they became known as fearless sharpshooters. Aliya stood out with her precise shots against the Nazis—she never missed, and many Germans fell to her rifle. We often saw her crossing the front lines to hunt the enemy.
— From the memoirs of scout N. Nerusha of the 54th Separate Rifle Brigade.
Aliya Moldagulova was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union and the Order of Lenin. Her name will forever remain a symbol of courage and sacrifice.
