The Georgian SSR became an important rear center for aircraft production and repair during the war.
“In a month and a half the capacities of aircraft factories from Taganrog and Sevastopol were transferred. About three thousand workers, engineers, designers and their families arrived in Tbilisi. They worked without sleep and rest. Here we started construction from scratch” – aircraft designer Pantiko Todria
Already in November the production of airplanes began. The supply of materials for aircraft production required the involvement of all factories that more or less fit the profile.
The Georgian film copying factory switched to the production of aviation lacquers, while the local chemical plant provided casein glue and paints, textile companies – special fabric, furniture and plywood factories – veneer and wooden parts for airplanes.
