Soviet troops encircled the Nazis in Vienna and reached the southern outskirts of the city. Six days remained before the complete capture of the Austrian capital.
“The troops of the 3rd Ukrainian Front under the command of Marshal Tolbukhin came to the Danube and started street battles in the southern part of the city of Vienna. The enemy stubbornly resisted, clinging to every line, seeking to stop our advancing units. Along with tank and infantry divisions the Germans are throwing into battle reserve regiments, special-purpose units, gendarme detachments, cadets of officer schools and other units”, – reported Sovinformburo.
On all fronts 60 German tanks and self-propelled guns were hit and destroyed; 38 enemy planes were shot down in air battles and by anti-aircraft artillery fire.
There were 31 days left to the Victory….
